Adaptation Fund Project
With the assistance of UNDP, Mauritius has secured a grant of USD 9,119,240 from the Adaptation Fund Board (AFB) to assist developing countries particularly vulnerable to the adverse effects of climate change and parties to the Kyoto Protocol under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). The objective of the project is to increase climate resilience of communities and livelihoods in the coastal areas in Mauritius. The Project ‘Climate Change Adaptation Programme in the Coastal Zone of Mauritius’ will be implemented over a period of six years.
Project Component ‘Knowledge Dissemination and Management’
This project component is aimed at facilitating more frequent and accessible public information on climate change effects in the coastal zone and appropriate interventions, such that District and National Plans reflect perceived climate risks in the coastal zone over the next 50 years and future private sector development will be designed to minimize climate risks in the coastal zone.
Background of collaboration with Reef Conservation
Reef Conservation is a non-governmental organization (NGO) and is dedicated to the conservation and restoration of the marine environment of Mauritius through the implementation and management of research and education projects.
Memorandum of Understanding
In the context of the Adaptation Fund Project, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed with Reef Conservation to implement activities under Outcome 5 “Knowledge Dissemination and Management”. This includes the development of an innovative electronic game application to be used as a tool for community outreach sensitization.
